More instructions on the type of writing we plan to publish on the blog can be found in the last blog post. Please feel free to send illustrations as well. Illustrations do not need to be relevant to an article. We can publish illustrations on both the website and the blog. I look forward to receiving more writing and art submissions from you all!

Soccer in the United States

The ABC Clarion blog will now be publishing some articles from ABC Clarion members. We will mostly be publishing very short or very long articles that would be difficult to fit on to the ABC Clarion print newspaper page and some articles on current events that may no longer be relevant or up to date by the time ABC Clarion can publish them.

Our first ABC Clarion blog article is by Daniel Zheng, an ABC Clarion member.
Please feel free to send in articles for the blog to clarionabc@gmail.com. We look forward to receiving your submissions and publishing more on the blog soon!

Soccer in the United States

Soccer seems to have found a foothold in this nation of die-hard football and baseball fans. Amidst Team USA’s strong performance at the 2014 World Cup, Americans seem to be more interested than ever before in soccer.
For a country with a population that mostly watches soccer every 4 years, the US is doing surprisingly well, having made it past the group stage of the World Cup and into the knockout rounds. The Round of 16 means “only 4 wins from glory”, says NY News Daily.Though Major League Soccer has not been very popular, with the 2013 final garnering only 505,000 TV viewers, Team USA’s game against Portugal set a record as the most-viewed soccer match in the US of all time, with an average of 18.2 million viewers.
Also worth noting is that the popular social network Twitter recently broke a record for simultaneous tweets during a sporting event. The previous record was 382,000 tweets were sent just after the Seattle Seahawk's Percy Harvin returned a kickoff for a touchdown during Super Bowl XLVIII. Nearly 389,000 tweets were generated after Chilean defender Gonzalo Jara’s penalty kick hit the post and allowed Brazil to pass through the Round of 16 once again.
Will the 2014 World Cup finally ignite a massive US soccer following comparable to that of football and baseball? That remains to be seen.

New ABC Clarion Article Policy

Hello everyone,

For new members and anyone who has forgotten, I am Jessica Li, the ABC Clarion managing editor. I am writing to you all today about an important new ABC Clarion article policy.

The ABC Clarion editing team and the GCTimes have recently decided upon a new article policy. Previously, we required written submissions to be around 500 words. However, now, we have broadened the range. Article word counts can now range from 400-800 words. Written submissions can be newspaper-style articles, essays, or poems.

The illustration policy still remains the same.

Please continue to submit to ABC Clarion. I understand you are all busy during the summer, but it is important to remember your duties as an ABC Clarion member too. Send any illustrations, photographs, and/or written submissions to the group email, clarionabc@gmail.com anytime.

Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you all!

Sincerely,
Jessica Li (ABC Clarion Managing Editor)

Blog Writers

If anyone is interested in submitting a post for the ABC Clarion blog, please email me (Jessica Li, ABC Clarion Managing Editor), jessicali1997@gmail.com. In your email, please include an outline or description of what you envision your post to be. If available, you can also send me the actual post I (preferably only if is short and simple). Photographs, images, videos, simulations, links to websites, drawings, etc. are also all welcome. The blog is able to publish some things that the newspaper cannot, such as videos or simulations, which is just another great reason to have this blog and contribute to it.

If your post is approved for publishing on the blog, you will either be added as a blog contributor or I will publish your post and give you due credit.

As always, continue to submit drawings, photographs, and articles to ABC Clarion- for the rest of this summer, that also includes the class of 2013.

Thank you for all your contributions. I hope you all are having an awesome summer!
